HOBART, Australia — Mike Hussey hit his 19th test century Saturday to lead Australia to 450-5 declared on a rain-affected second day of the first test against Sri Lanka.
Rain held up play by more than an hour after lunch but Hussey picked up where he left off, advancing from 66 to 115 not out. He reached his ton with a mishit that Angelo Mathews dropped on the mid-wicket boundary.
The highest score of the match so far puts the hosts firmly in control against a side that has never won a test in Australia.
Matthew Wade was on 66 not out as Sri Lanka looked short of pace and ideas as Australia declared about 30 minutes before tea.
Australia added 252 runs for just the loss of captain Michael Clarke, who fell for 74 early on day two, which started 50 minutes late because of rain.
Clarke added only four runs to his overnight score before he nudged a seaming delivery by Shaminda Eranga to Kumar Sangakkara at second slip.
