ICC officials admit error in dismissing Jacques Kallis upon review in Proteas, Pakistan test

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — The officials in charge of the second test between South Africa and Pakistan have admitted Jacques Kallis shouldn’t have been given out lbw upon review because the Proteas batsman’s appeal was against his dismissal for being caught.
Kallis was one of five wickets to fall on Friday to Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal but the dismissal arose in controversial circumstances since he was originally given out caught by umpire Steve Davis.
A review confirmed Kallis hadn’t hit the ball but he was given out lbw after Davis consulted with third umpire Billy Bowden — despite the decision going against a key article in the DRS rulebook.
The officials confirmed a mistake had been made in an “extremely rare situation.”
South Africa closed on 139-5 after bowling Pakistan out for 338.
