Arsenal fans, want to recapture some former glory?

Time to travel to India – Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg are taking their talents there.

Both ex-Arsenal men have signed on with the upstart Indian Super League (ISL), due to kick off this fall. While Ljungberg’s contract will see him as an ‘ambassador,’ 40-year-old Pires looks set to actually play.

The France ’98 World Cup star joins another former favourite of the English Premier League: ex-Liverpool winger Luis Garcia, who is set to play for Atletico de Kolkata.

“I am very happy to be part of the new League when passion for football in India is on the rise,” Pires said in an official ISL release. “It will be great to play in front of enthusiastic Indian fans as well as share my knowledge with my team-mates.”

Pires’ countryman David Trezeguet has also signed on with FC Pune City. Trezeguet scored 34 goals in 71 games for France.

The ISL kicks off a three-month season in October.
