Juventus top Group E in Champions League
Kiev, Dec 6 (IANS) Juventus sealed top spot in their Champions League football Group E tie beating Shakhtar 1-0 in Donetsk.
Shakhtar had started the match strongly and kept the Italian team quiet in the early stages Wednesday, Xinhua reports.
However, Juventus, knowing that only a win would be good enough to progress to the Round of 16, took control over the game in the second half.
“The Old Lady” broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, when Ukrainian defender Kucher scored an own goal after Giovinco has strongly punched the ball into Shakhtar’s penalty area.
With 12 points onboard, Juventus topped the group, with the Ukrainian side joining them in the knockout stages two points behind.
Chelsea headed into the Europe League from the third position, while Danish champions FC Nordshellard exited with just one point.
