Madras in semis of south zone varsity cricket

Manipal, Dec 26 (IANS) Runners-up University of Madras beat University of Calicut to enter the semifinals of the South Zone Inter-University cricket tournament at the Manipal University Ground here Wednesday.

Calicut made 150 for six in 45 overs and Madras got the runs losing just four wickets.

M. Kamalesh was declared man of the match for his 55 for Madras

In other matches, Mangalore University made it to the quarter-finals with a comfortable 90-run win over Osmania University at the second ground in Manipal University.

A fine 77 from Naveen and fine bowling from Pawan, Ritesh and Nishant enabled Mangalore reach the last eight stage.

Bangalore University also made the pre-quarters with a comfortable six wicket win over Kannur University.

Kannur batting first were bundled out for 123 by some good bowling from Stallin Hoover, Yousuf Aziz and Chetan. Bangalore got the runs losing just four wickets. Arjun Hoysala top scored with 38.
