Chennai, Feb 27 (IANS) Having missed the winning race of Mahi Racing Team India, which Akkineni Nagarjuna co-owns, at the World SuperSport Series, he now wants to make it to Spain to cheer for his team in the next race.
“I so badly wanted to be part of the first race but I couldn’t. I’m definitely planning to go to Spain for the next race in April to cheer for my team. Despite being a rookie team, we won, and I’m extremely happy about it,” Nagarjuna told IANS.
Riders from Mahi Racing finished first and fourth in the first race of the season in Australia. The other owners of the team are Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Nandish Domlur. The next race is scheduled for April 14.
But why the sudden love for biking?
“I’ve always loved bikes and biking. Even when my father wanted to buy me a car after college, I demanded for a bike. I’m excited because it’s a new sport in our country and with a win in the very first race, we’re all hoping for a successful season,” he said.
Queried how he manages multiple business ventures besides acting, Nagarjuna said, “I have good people running around and working for me. I ensure I’m around when they need me. In simple words, I do what I believe is the macro-level management.”
He also feels celebrity association with a sport helps in spreading awareness.
“As much as I love cricket, I feel other sports in the country also need some attention. Celebrity association with a sport definitely helps in bringing it into limelight. I’m glad hockey and badminton is gradually finding prominence through county tournaments,” he added.
