Kolkata, Dec 18 (IANS) Led by the city-based teams of Ajay Bagaria and Hemant Jalan, sides from Delhi and Mumbai moved into the quarter finalsof the Ruia Gold Cup on the third day of the 54th Winter National Bridge Championship at the Geetanjali stadium here Tuesday.
The other outfits in the last eight are Mohta’s team, Indian Blues and Poddar Developers from Mumbai and Formidables and Maya Meera Sneha from Delhi.
Champions Indian Railways “A”, looking a pale shadow of their glorious past, are now busy in a survival battle as they were forced to a tie break in their pre-1quarter final clash by their city rivals – C.V. Rao’s team.
The tie break had to be introduced as both Railways, with a number of world cuppers in their fold, and Rao tallied a total of 91 VPs each at the end of the scheduled three sessions of pre- quarter finals.
In the pre-quarter finals, Bagaria’s team beat MMRC 74-62, while Nalco conceded their match against Formidables at the end of the second session when they were trailing 19-71.
Mohta’s team defeated strong contender TexanAces from Chennai 71-50, Jalan beat Arostos 108-53, Indian Blues beat Trambak Rubber 114-47, Sneha got the better of Mango 104-77 and Poddar Developers routed Enterprise 133-62.
