Official: Bangladesh agrees ‘in principle’ to tour Pakistan next month

DHAKA, Bangladesh — A Bangladesh Cricket Board official says the country has agreed “in principle” to play a one-day international and a Twenty20 match next month in Pakistan.

The tour would be the first since international cricket in the country was suspended after gunmen attacked the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009.

Enayet Husain Siraj, the Bangladesh board’s head of cricket operations, told The Associated Press Monday that the games would also be played in Lahore but still require final “security clearance.”

Siraj did not specify the dates for the games but other officials said they would be held between Jan. 11 and 13.

He added that Bangladesh hopes the International Cricket Council would sanction the competition.

In April last year, Bangladesh was scheduled to tour Pakistan for a brief series but it was scrapped after the country’s High Court asked the government to suspend them because of security concerns.
