PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka — Opening batsmen Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera led Sri Lanka’s fightback as the home side reached 142-3 at lunch on the third day of the third and final test against Pakistan on Tuesday.
Pakistan’s seamers bowled well in the first half an hour of the morning session under overcast conditions, but both Sri Lanka batsmen dug in well after resuming at 44-3. Paranavitana was unbeaten on 52 — his highest score in the series, while Samaraweera was not out on 45.
The second day’s play was rained out Monday, but Paranavitana and Samaraweera managed to put on 98 runs for the fourth wicket. Sri Lanka, leading the series 1-0, now trails by 84 runs after Pakistan was dismissed for 226.
