CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Russell Domingo will take over from Gary Kirsten as coach of South Africa’s Twenty20 team for upcoming series against New Zealand and Pakistan.
Domingo, who is already part of the Proteas coaching set-up, will stand in for Kirsten for three T20 games against New Zealand this month and two against Pakistan in March.
Cricket South Africa said Friday that Kirsten “remains accountable” for all three squads — test, one-day and T20 — but will focus more on the test and ODI series against the two touring teams.
Kirsten will still be involved in team selection and strategy for T20s, but hands over the squad’s preparation and daily activities to Domingo.
Kirsten says of Domingo that “I’m confident he will do a great job. He fully understands the Proteas culture.”
