Gros Islet (St. Lucia), Jan 15 (IANS/CMC) The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has confirmed that a day’s play was sold out in advance for the first time in the history of West Indies cricket.
WICB issued a statement Monday referring to matches on two separate days in the Trinidad leg of the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament which ended over the weekend, reports CMC.
Saturday’s double header at the Queen’s Park oval, which climaxed with a commanding 80 run win by the host over Guyana as well as the opening night of competition, were sold out.
“Tickets were sold out from as early as Thursday while the opening night Sunday Jan 6 was also sold out,” the Board said.
“Overall, attendance to the Trinidad matches of the CT20 has been beyond WICB and TTCB projections with cricket fans turning out in huge numbers to support their favourite teams.”
The St. Lucia leg of the tournament began Tuesday at Beausejour Cricket Ground with Guyana facing Jamaica and Windwards playing Trinidad and Tobago.
