Sri Lanka off to poor start against Chairman’s XI in preparation for 1st test vs Australia

CANBERRA, Australia — An unbeaten 172 by Scott Henry and 91 from Glenn Maxwell led an Australian Chairman’s XI to 390-4 on the opening day of a three-day tour match against Sri Lanka as the visitors prepare for the first of three tests against Australia.
With star spinner Rangana Herath, No. 1 pace bowler Nuwan Kulasekara and vice-captain Angelo Mathews rested, Sri Lanka’s bowlers struggled at Manuka Oval in the national capital.
Henry reached his 100 off 154 balls with a mix of classical cover drives, powerful straight drives and two calculated hook shots into the stands.
Shaminda Eranga had the economical figures of 1-22 off 13 overs to be the best of Sri Lanka’s bowlers.
The first test begins on Dec. 14 at Hobart.
