CALGARY — Calgary Stampeders quarterback Drew Tate is expected to miss the remainder of the CFL season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
The team announced on their website Sunday that Tate elected to undergo the surgery after dislocating his non-throwing left shoulder during Calgary’s 39-36 loss to the Toronto Argonauts on July 7.
The surgery will performed by Dr. James Stewart, the Stampeders’ orthopedic surgeon.
“Drew stopped by my office this morning and told me about his decision to have his shoulder operated on,” said head coach and general manager John Hufnagel in a statement posted on the team’s website. “We are here to support Drew in his recovery and look forward to having him back on the football field in four months. Obviously, we will do everything we can to help Drew in his road to recovery.”
Tate dislocated the same shoulder during the 2011 pre-season.
In two regular-season games this season, Tate was a combined 30-for-41 with 363 yards in passing and two touchdowns.
Veteran Kevin Glenn has stepped into the starter’s role but threw a key interception on Friday that cost Calgary in its 33-32 loss to Montreal.
Brad Sinopoli and Bo Levi Mitchell are the other quarterbacks on the Stampeders’ active roster.
