STOKE, England — Stoke City says it has agreed a deal with Rangers and Scotland under-21 midfielder Jamie Ness and is waiting for international clearance for his move to the English Premier League side to be completed.
Stoke says the 21-year-old Ness will join as a free agent from debt-ridden Scottish club Rangers, which could be relegated from Scotland’s top league after entering bankruptcy protection in February.
Ness has exercised his right to have his contract with Rangers terminated, although new club chief executive Charles Green has threatened to take players who don’t transfer their contracts to Rangers’ new controlling company to court.
Stoke coach Tony Pulis says Ness “is a lad with enormous potential who is clearly determined to make the most of his fresh start in the game.”
