Swansea signs Canadian-born De Guzman on season-long loan from Villarreal

SWANSEA — Swansea has signed Canadian-born attacking midfielder Jonathan de Guzman on a season-long loan from Spanish club Villarreal.
The Premier League side says De Guzman completed a medical on Tuesday in a deal that contains an option to make the move permanent.
The 24-year-old De Guzman is a former Dutch under-21 international and becomes newly appointed Swansea manager Michael Laudrup’s second signing, after Spanish central defender Jose Manuel Flores.
De Guzman, who was born in Toronto, says “once the opportunity came along to join Swansea and Michael Laudrup, it was a done deal. I didn’t have to think twice about it.”
De Guzman is still able to play for Canada’s senior national team as he has never been called up to the senior Dutch squad.
