Taylor and Williamson take New Zealand to 96-2 in the 2nd test vs. Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Ross Taylor and Kane Willaimson rescued New Zealand from another poor batting start as the visitors reached 96-2 at lunch on the opening day of the second test against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Captain Taylor opted to bat first after winning the toss at P. Sara Oval, but his team quickly lost two wickets for 14.

The third wicket pair added 82 runs in an unbroken partnership by lunch.

Sri Lankan seamers Nuwan Kulasekara and Shaminda Eranga picked up a wicket each.
