We can level the series: Clarke

New Delhi, March 8 (IANS) Australia cricket captain Michael Clarke believes that his team can make a comeback in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India despite being 0-2 down in the four-match Test series.

“Yes, we can comeback in the series. If we can win the third Test in Mohali then we have a chance to make it 2-2. Had there been a fifth Test, I am sure we would have won the series 3-2,” Clarke told mediapersons here.

Clarke admitted that India performed much better as a unit than his team.

“India have been playing really good. They have proved better in all departments of the game – batting, bowling and fielding. But we have learned a lot from our mistakes in the first two Tests. Now we are going to the third Test as a more experienced team. We know its going to be tough but it’s in our nature not to give up. Australia will fight till the end.

“We offer no excuses for losing. Credit goes to India for playing better cricket,” added the 31-year-old.

Asked about India opener Virender Sehwag’s axing from the Test squad, Clarke said that the explosive opener has the talent and ability to make a comeback to the Indian team.

“I shouldn’t be speaking on selection of Indian players as I remained too focussed on the Australian team but Virender is a fantastic cricketer in all three formats of the game. I am sure he would be back in the team,” said the middle-order batsman.

Clarke paid a visit to the Taj Mahal Thursday with his wife. When asked about the experience, Clarke said: “It was great and magnificent. After all, it’s one of the seven wonders in the world.”

India currently lead the series 2-0 with the next two matches at Mohali (March 14-18) and New Delhi (March 22-26.
