West Indies win toss, bowl first vs. Australia, trying to avoid 5-0 sweep

MELBOURNE, Australia — West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and chose to bowl against Australia in Sunday’s one-day international as his team sought to avoid a five-game series clean sweep.

Trailing 4-0, the West Indies made only one change to its lineup for the match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, naming paceman Kemar Roach in place of Andre Russell.

Injuries and the absence of key players forced Australia to make more radical changes to its team, captained by Shane Watson instead of Michael Clarke who has a hamstring injury.

Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Wade have left for India to prepare for Australia’s coming test series, allowing the return of Brad Haddin and Shaun Marsh.
