West Indies wins toss, opts to bat first in first test vs. Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh — West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening test against Bangladesh at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.

Bangladesh has won just three tests from 73 matches since it began playing the long form of the game 12 years ago. It played its last test series nearly 11 months ago when it was comfortably beaten 2-0 at home by Pakistan.

The West Indies won the World Twenty20 title last month in Sri Lanka after claiming a 2-0 test series win over New Zealand.

Offspinner Sohag Gazi makes his test debut for Bangladesh, while the West Indies introduces left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul.
