ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild are hoping that landing the top two free agents on the market with massive contracts will help turn flyover country into the place to be for top talent going forward.
The Wild introduced forward Zach Parise and defenceman Ryan Suter on Monday, five days after signing them to matching 13-year, $98 million contracts. They were the premiere players available this summer, and the Wild landed both of them while holding off major-market teams like Chicago, New York and New Jersey to do it.
General manager Chuck Fletcher says the signings take the franchise “to a whole new level.”
And both Parise and Suter say it is their goal to turn Minnesota into a destination spot for the best players in the league.
